Philip Oliver spent his early youth at Pasture House, a smallholding near Hexham where the beauty of the Northumbrian countryside, along with the tractors, farm machinery and animals which also formed part of his everyday life, left deep and lasting impressions.
One thing he certainly never forgot was the arrival, back in the 1950’s, of a family friend’s brand new Fordson Major tractor that had been brought along to help with the haymaking. Little did Philip know at that time that in years to come a Major would form the subject of his very first tractor water colour. In later years Philip realised what an interesting subject tractor-related paintings could be.
A little over ten years ago, he finally bought his own real-life Fordson Major, something he had dreamed about since being a young boy and of course it became the subject of his first limited-edition print, entitled The Old Major. |

This was the first of many subsequent tractor paintings and Philip has enjoyed painting every one of them. His love of the countryside linked with his artistic ability has also enabled him to paint wildlife and landscapes, which are also offered as prints. |
