Welcome to the Tynedale Gallery in Hexham, Northumberland.

Philip Oliver has been operating from the Tynedale Gallery for six years now and as he was born in the nearby village of Corbridge, he is very much ‘at home’ painting and offering customers a frame making service in his popular gallery in the Hencotes area of Hexham.

After an industrial background, Philip decided to focus upon his artistic talent and gained a place at Sunderland College of Art where his subjects ranged from technical illustration, natural history and model-making.  On graduation Philip worked as a freelance illustrator/designer, completing artwork for major advertising agencies ranging from advertising washing powders to machinery and even posters for a major bus company.

He also completed illustrations for London publishing companies, namely, Warplane, Firepower, Take Off and Encylopedia of Aircraft magazines to name but a few.  His technical ability soon led him to further projects, attracting the attention of the international company ‘Squadron Prints’ where he produced profiles of military aircraft for the United Kingdom, USA and Germany. Alongside his freelance work Philip was also employed as a visiting lecturer, teaching on various graphic design courses in colleges throughout the northern region.

When the opportunity arose to open an art gallery in Hexham, Philip jumped at the chance and has never looked back.  He now works mainly to commission, painting anything from aircraft, tractors and other modes of transport to landscapes, animals, portraits, etc.  He also runs a very successful framing service.
